This requires a very clear concept of what one wants out of an image - not some vague sense of "vibrant" or "sharper" - which can be challenging at first, especially for one accustomed to dumbed-down editors that offer automated quick fixes. It is not intended to be an "editor" but rather a "finisher" of images. my instagram handle is takietamtakietam. One of the best suites of tools for working with RAW image files regardless of price, and with its very active and cooperative developers community it just gets better and better. I'm wondering - how a non-coder can help with Darktable? I can test stuff and report bugs, I can rewrite some documentation if needed, I know git, sphinx, a lot of linux. U/aurelienpierre you've helped me a lot, thank you, I'll get to work and gain more knowledge. Now playing around with color balance RGB is an entry point to make things better.

the it8 skin tones default setting in color look up table gives skin tones that are BETTER AND WAY NICER than Lightroom.now I've used these 3 profiles on photos of my wife and it proves to be very consistent! All 3 give much more pleasing tangerine-hotdog like skin! This is surprising given the fact that all 3 profiles are done using different cameras and different lighting!.I've set the WB first, then I've generated a calibration profile using color calibration module, no other changes. built color profiles out of the 3 raws.

I've downloaded the RAW from dpreview's pages for X-T3 here ISO 160.I've made it B-W for a joke but in this case it's no joke. I've found a portrait I made of my friend photographer holding an x-rite color checker lit by bigass broncolors.

  • I'm on Darktable 3.8.1, linux, hardware calibrated EA271q nec monitor.
  • But in Lightroom they have a team of people that does just that - work on eye-pleasing color profiles to get eye-pleasing (not true, not characteristic) results out of the box? Is it OK to assume that the in order to show your personal style in both tools you need to work a lot and know a lot about color management. And it looks like the X-T3 sensor gives that greenish/greyish cast by default, as X-T30 and other cameras of this x-trans gen. I'm experiencing what this person has reported. Maybe DT does not use a good ICC profile for the X-T3 sensor while Lightroom does?

While looking for ideas I've bought the trial of Lightroom Classic. Maybe I need to get the color checker matrix and make some profiles myself.

The light quality is good - I've learnt this back in analog days and read a lot on how to get a picture right straight from the camera :) Regarding point numer 2 and the videos - you are right - there's work on my part to do. I explain the difference in my latest video : įor subjectively better looking skin tones, you may need to use the color balance RGB and desaturate highlights, then perhaps make them less red and more yellow by applying a color cast on the gain (see ) for the reasons mentionned in. Notice this will give you objectively true skin tones, not necessarily subjectively pleasing or good-looking skin tones. Of course, these are average values (coming from L'Oréal cosmetics research) for the skin parts exposed to your main light to read as a priori guidelines, don't take them too litteraly and remember that chiaroscuro or dramatic lighting will void them.

  • set your exposure such that the lightness (L channel of CIE Lab space) of the skin is around 45-55 for black skins, 55-60 for Asian and native American skins, 60-65 for caucasian skin tones.
